2025: A Year of Impact and Progress

In 2025, Vi Agroforestry made significant strides in promoting sustainable agriculture and agroforestry throughout Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. Our efforts ranged from high-level policy advocacy to grassroots action, all aimed at building climate resilience and supporting smallholder farmers.

Policy Breakthroughs

  • Landmark Pesticide Reform in Kenya: Our advocacy contributed to the Kenyan government’s review of 430 pesticide ingredients—resulting in 77 withdrawals, 202 restrictions, and 151 under review. This milestone paves the way for safer food systems and healthier communities.
  • National Agroforestry Strategy Launch: Vi Agroforestry played a key role in shaping and launching Kenya’s 2025–2035 National Agroforestry Strategy, setting a vision for land restoration and improved livelihoods.

Field Achievements

  • Tree Planting and Land Restoration: In partnership with local communities, we planted over 3 million trees and restored 8,742 hectares of degraded land, enhancing biodiversity and climate resilience.
  • Empowering Farmers: We reached 353,468 people (191,769 women, 161,699 men) and mobilized 353 Village Savings & Loan Associations (VSLAs), strengthening financial inclusion and community resilience.
  • Capacity Building: 91,016 participants joined our trainings and activities, while 262,452 more benefited indirectly through advocacy and outreach.
  • Climate-Smart Agriculture: 23,289 smallholder farmers adopted Sustainable Agricultural Land Management (SALM) practices, improving yields and food security.

Stories and Lessons

  • Women’s Leadership: Groups like the Paran Women Group in Narok, Kenya, exemplified how women’s leadership drives agroforestry, beekeeping, and economic empowerment.
  • Regional Collaboration: Our participation in events like the Eastern Africa Agroecology Conference and the 10th Annual Agroforestry Symposium fostered knowledge sharing and policy influence across the region.
  • Learning for the Future: Multimedia documentation of carbon projects and collaborative policy briefs provided practical tools and evidence for scaling climate action.
