🌍 Nairobi, Kenya – Kenya has officially launched their National Agroforestry Strategy 2025–2035, marking a pivotal milestone in advancing climate-smart agriculture, resilient livelihoods, and environmental restoration. 🌿

Agroforestry – the integrated practice of growing trees alongside crops and livestock – lies at the heart of this strategy. It empowers farmers by:

– 🌱 Improving soil health and boosting harvests
– 💧 Conserving water and preventing erosion
– 🌳 Restoring degraded lands while delivering shade, fodder, fruits, and firewood
– ☀️ Sequestering carbon to combat climate change

Vi Agroforestry’s Regional Advisor on Environment and Climate Change, Monica Nderitu (to the right), shakes hands with Environment Cabinet Secretary Dr. Deborah Barasa at the strategy launch, highlighting collaborative efforts in agroforestry advancement.

Aligned with the government’s Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), the strategy sets an ambitious target to establish 5 million acres of woodlots in Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs) by 2035. It also prioritizes:

– 💪 Youth as central players in agroforestry value chains
– 👩🏾 Gender inclusion, dismantling barriers for women and marginalized groups

This initiative goes beyond planting trees – it’s about revitalizing farms, strengthening families, and securing brighter futures for communities.

👏 Congratulations to the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change & Forestry and all partners for this achievement. Vi Agroforestry is proud to have contributed to the development process.
