About the Network

Agroforestry is  increasingly seen as a nature-based solution (NbS) and a sustainable option for land management. Vi Agroforestry (in Swedish: Vi-skogen) founded Agroforestry Network in order to make agroforestry more recognized among international development stakeholders and to share expertise. It is a network for international agroforestry practice, based in Sweden, bringing together agroforestry experts from different organisations and institutions.

Get to know some of the network members:

Linus Linse

Linus Linse is a Swedish agronomist specializing in rural development. He works as a project coordinator in the Division of Rural Development at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), where he contributes to various initiatives, including projects on agroforestry and agroecology. Linus first discovered agroforestry during his travels before beginning his studies—an experience that sparked a lasting interest in the field. His academic focus on sustainable development in socio-ecological systems eventually led him to join the board of the civil society organization Agroforestry Sweden.

Kristina Mastroianni

Kristina Mastroianni is an agronomist and has worked with large agricultural value chain development projects at NIRAS since 2004, collaborating with donors such as the EU, Sida, DFID UK, NZAID, the World Bank, and ADB. As Technical Director for Agriculture at NIRAS, she oversees stakeholder engagement and coordinates knowledge management and learning across more than 45 ongoing agriculture programmes, representing a technical assistance value of €75 million. Kristina has extensive experience in reviewing development cooperation strategies and is highly knowledgeable in Market Systems Development (MSD) within sustainable production. She also serves as Programme Director for the UK-funded Commercial Agriculture for Smallholders and Agribusiness (CASA) programme, which aims to generate evidence to drive increased investment in smallholder agriculture globally.

Bo Lager

Bo Lager is Senior Policy Advisor for agriculture at the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation (SSNC). With a bachelor’s degree in forestry and a master’s in agroforestry, Bo has worked extensively across Africa and Asia, focusing on sustainable natural resource management, agroforestry, food security, and rural development. He has led major initiatives such as the Kenya Agricultural Carbon Project—Africa’s first soil and agriculture carbon programme—connecting 50,000 farmers to the global carbon market. Bo also directed Vi Agroforestry’s training programme, which reached 200,000 farmers in East Africa, and has advised on food security in North Korea. His work includes support for community-based forest management and value chain development in countries including Myanmar, Mongolia, Vietnam, Sudan, Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, and Tanzania.

Malin Lundberg Ingemarsson

Malin Lundberg Ingemarsson (PhD) is a Research Advisor at the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) since 2019. She leads SIWI’s work at the intersection of water, landscapes, biodiversity, and climate change—often with a focus on restoring degraded land, including through agroforestry. Before joining SIWI, Malin worked as a Technical Expert at Vi Agroforestry and coordinated the Agroforestry Network. She continues to be actively involved in the network, now representing SIWI.
Malin shares: “It is a passion of mine to work with integrated approaches and encourage collaboration between different disciplines, sectors, actors and levels of society. One great example is Agroforestry Network that brings together knowledge and expertise from many different perspectives, and I find it highly important and rewarding to bring water into that space.”

Katarina Börling

She is an agronomist with a PhD in soil sciences and plant nutrition, with experience from extension service and capacity development programmes.
